    Printing/Layout Issues

I am having an issue with printing.

I've imported an AutoCAD file into Chief, and have converted everything into the "CAD, Default" Layer. For some reason, everything shows up in the layout file, but upon printing, only certain items show up. Line segments are split and half of them fail to print. Text labels seem to work, but there is no consistency to what will or will not show up when printing. I've made my own CAD blocks from scratch in chief that do not show up in printing, and even just a simple drawn line segment does not print out. I've tried exploding all objects and have double checked that lineweights, styles and colour by layer are all the same. I cannot figure out what the reason is for this.

    Any help would be great.

    Version Chief Architect Interiors X5

    Thanks, All!

The odds are high that it's a line weight issue. Some of the line weights from the ACAD file probably too small for the page set up for the layout. Just a thought.

Describe to us how you go about printing them.

Do you "print" to PDF first then send to your physical printer?

Or are you printing directly to your printer, 8-1/2 x11 or whatever?

Could be a printer driver issue or any manner of things.

my understanding is this is only an issue with one single file. i was assisting jdDesigns earlier and we could not figure out what the issue was. Tried creating a new layout, that didn't work. tis a puzzler!

Andy has the best approach and is what I recommend. If a pdf looks good, then it should print okay. If not, then it's probably something not set right with the physical printer settings.

If any of your entities are drawn with white color, they may display on screen if you have other than a white background, but they won't print.

It would be informative to us to get the plan sent to our support team.

Create new file. Import and map drawing layers to CA Layer by name with attributes. This may help finding the offending text, lines etc. Like Glenn said, white color will not print. Like Andy said, line wieght may be an issue. At least with all the layers mapped you can play around and see what's going on. Maybe some attributes got 'screwed' when you map it to one layer.
