Thanks for your patience Lew, I finally did get a chance to view the video. I think the method I laid out in my vids is a much easier, much quicker, more accurate and more versatile method. But different strokes, thanks again Lew.

I would assume many users would consider this a work around. But think about it. Is there possibly a quicker and easier way to control the direction, size and spacing of the joists? Once I have created my plywood floor diaphragm, 1.5 seconds, I can define multiple floor framing configurations under that one plywood diaphragm.

I assume you did study CA's video. Did you notice how many walls he had to manually adjust? 8 walls and this was a simple plan. Did you notice how many framing members he had to manually locate? Only 4 and that was because it was a simple rectangle. Did you notice how many times he had to use the fence and trim tool. Only twice, lucky for him it was a simple rectangle. I suppose if the engineer changed from 10" deep joists to 12 " joists he could group select and change depth, but suppose the engineer changes from 16" oc to 12" oc? Not quite as simple. Suppose the engineer changes direction? Did you notice the sill plate of the wall was actually sitting on the stem wall versus siting on the plywood diaphragm that in turn should sit on the sill.

Dd you notice he changed the stem wall sill plate default to zero thickness. Not only did he not have to do that since he manually modified the top of stem wall but heaven forbid if he may need a sill plate on a stem wall elsewhere in the model.

Other than these minor annoyances, a great video that everyone should study.

But to be fair, I did have to manually locate some sill plates........ Oops, that was only if I wanted the "step down". Situation that JT was asking for. The CA video did not broach that subject.

Anyone drawing CD's can see that Scott's method gives you the options you might need to show sections correctly, and it can be changed to accommodate any situation. I like it.

The way I see it, just drawing a complete plan (CD's) will require some workarounds. Even if Chief addressed all the known one's There would be more coming, for ever. Every project I do is different. Every plan I do has some kind of workaround weather I like it or not. I suggest everyone learn the workarounds because your going to need it.

I suppose you mean by "automatically", in 3-D and if that is what you mean then yes, there is no way I know of to automatically do this by way of settings or dialog boxes.
I do not agree that it is a work-round, but rather just work, whether with pencil and paper or with 2-D CAD tools, drawing is drawing. Chief can be set to reduce the amount of drawing but not eliminate it all together.

This pretty much sums it up.
If I need to do something that is uncommon or specialized and the software allows me to do it with the tools available it's not a work around it's just manipulating the tools properly or inventively.

Now I wish I was able to view those video's! I did it manually, and it took me SIX fracking hours to drag up the stem walls, move all the plates, add hangers, cut the joists to fit inside the stem walls, then rotate various sections 90 degrees to change the joists directions. All in all it was unpleasant, but I did it 99% accurately as a model so it displays correctly in 3d. I even started using the Anno sets and MRLS to get good layout imagery.

I can see I need to review the setup for auto generating the floor systems to allow more flexibility than the default settings have.
