    Incorrect Door Symbol Origin

This is Chief's default exterior door; it has its origin set incorrectly by about 1 1/2" (the thickness of the applied trim). This can be easily be corrected by saving it to "my Doors" and adjusting the Y origin.

Notice the inset of the door compared to the hardware that is in the right place.

I'm surprised that this has not been noticed before.

It was a problem at one time but it was corrected. The door symbol was incorrectly sized because of the parts that extend past the normal door size. We corrected the door symbol and the template plans so most people might not be seeing this problem.

You are probably using an out of date template plan. Maybe your brought it forward from an older or beta version? You should be able to solve this problem by modifying your door defaults and selecting the door symbol from the library.

Thanks for the information Dermot. I'll update my profile plan. I just noticed it when I was having fun experimenting with hinges.

Bill, would you mind elaborating on this. I put the CA default door in plan, noticed the problem, sent door to my library, and now I do not know how to adjust the origin. Would you explain, thanks. BTW, thanks for bringing this up, I don't ever use hinges because............. I don't know......... I think I might start. I suppose maybe way back when, I thought the hinges would add to the complexity of the model therefore slow down the program..... but maybe not, I kind of like the look of having hinges.

Here the Y origin has been adjusted 1 1/2" for the thickness of the trim. To adjust a door it must be copied to "my doors".

    Hi Scot,
Just to be clear, you can only open the symbol if it is copied to my doors.

Go to "my doors" and select the door you want. Just right click on the blue dot, and one of the options will be to open the symbol.

The "Drop-a-Shot Curse" arises again, I do not have a folder called MY DOORS. It is in my USER CATALOG library.

    Hi Scott,
It doesn't specifically have to be in "my Doors"; it can be anywhere in the "User Catalog". If you don't have a "My Doors" folder, you can create one within the "user catalog" folder.

    Scott,

Chief supplied Library Symbols can't be edited. But you can copy them to your own user library, right click and open the symbol dbx. You can then make changes to that symbol. However, you can not replace the symbol in the Chief Library.

Several months back I requested that Chief make the symbols in their libraries editable - just so we could fix things that they didn't get right.

Unfortunately I've not received any reply from them.

    Joe:

many versions ago, probably X1, CA made their libraried un-editable deliberately
so that tech support would have a level playing field concerning CA supplied symbols

as stated they need to be copied into the user library then edited

each time someone fixes a CA symbol they should send the fixed symbol to tech support
so it can be updated online

then when a user updates their library they will have the fix in the CA library also
