Z flicker in Walkthroughs
Anyone know how to reduce/eliminate Z flicker which appears in various places while creating walkthroughs?

Hi Ivan,
Can you tell me your settings? How many frames per second, how many feet per second along the path? Without seeing the video, I can only guess, but increasing the first, and decreasing the second might fix it.
Wait, now that I re-read your question, are you talking about 2 materials fighting for the same space and flicking back & forth? The way to fix that is to make one of the materials thicker or sitting in front of the other. If you look at the following video, you can see a little of that to the lower right of the front door, where the foundation wall and the 1st floor wall overlap. I could fix that by pulling one wall down or up. If you are talking about shingles & OSB sheathing fighting, then you need to paint all of the OSB with the shingle material.
Got any more details?

Hi Allen,
The Z flicker is found in the following video in at least 4 places. Most notable is the bottom panel at the bottom of the Teacher Lobby fridge. It is very distracting.
https://www.youtube.com/results?sear....1.5EZqUFeAtCU
You will see the effect at 50s on the ceiling above the door as you enter the building. Bottom of the doorway at 2:40. Bottom of window frame at 2:50. Fridge at 3:05.
Frame rate was 23/sec in first, and 30/sec in the other three. Rates of travel were in the range of 0.8 m/s (sorry metric plan) to 0.3 m/s for the last three. The first was above 1.5 m/s for much of it.
I understand better what is happening, thank you for that explanation...and how to fix it with the underlying material matching the externally viewed material, but how can you do that to the most distracting of them all...the fridge??
Any ideas?? Buy a Viking vs a Kenmore??Ivan Cyr

Thanks Lew for chiming in. I will try that suggestion. My problem is that I can't extend it too much as I am very close to walls and windows as I pass through the interior. If I could lessen the flicker on the fridge, I'd be pretty pleased. What's the material behind that panel? Ah yes, its a condenser back there! Oopps not in the material definition dbx!
Thanks again Lew.Ivan Cyr

Drop the ceiling outside front door 1/2". Either raise the door off the ground a 1/2", or place a small polyline solid 1/4" thick sitting on top of the door sill. I didn't see the window frame flicker, but try making the jamb thicker. On the fridge, I would try placing a polyline solid in front of the bottom portion of the fridge, created in elevation view.

Thanks Allen. I'll put these tips to very good use for next time. This is all published now for the most part. I may have to change some "credits" as I got word that an addition might be required. If that's the case, I'll take a second run on those walkthroughs with Lew's suggestion first, and then yours...(cuz it FAR more work...and I'm a tad lazy)...
A great help gentlemen,Ivan Cyr
