Copy/Paste Terrain from One Plan to Another?

You seriously can't do this? Tell me there is something I am missing. If it won't won't work, there ought to be a warning that says you can't.

Bryce, for as long as I can remember, you can always copy the terrain to another plan BUT it will only copy as cad. You'll have to reassign the perimeter as a terrain perimeter and if there's elevation lines, etc., you'll have to convert them too and reassign the elevation height. I think it's always been that way. Not what you wanted to hear I know.

    Bryce:

can you just clone the plan and start from there ???

If you have a house in Plan B that you want to use with the terrain in Plan A
clone A as Plan C then use edit area to copy the house in Plan B and paste it into Plan C

or make a symbol of the house in Plan B and add it to Plan C

I have a very large commercial project and the terrain was really slowing me down in condocs so I made a copy of the plan and deleted the terrain. Then there were some revisions to the design and I went to do some exterior renderings and wanted the terrain back in. So, I basically just copy/pasted the building back into a copy of the file with only the terrain. Seems silly you can't do it the other way around. Oh well. Always workarounds.

    Lew,

this is similar to what I do, but I find it a total PITA. Sometimes I want to move the floorplan around to get the best position on the site. This can lead to some of the contour lines being picked up and moved as well. Yes you can lock layers, but as I said, this then gets frustrating. Needs to be a simpler method.

what about the symbol method ???

It's been awhile but I don't think they interfere with the terrain ???

The symbol method then leaves to way to edit the building any more. I don't see the advantage over they way I ended up doing it.

    Bryce:

I just keep the building in a separate plan and edit it and then create another symbol

I like the "flexibility" it gives

this method is especially nice when working on a site with multiple buildings

You can always make a symbol out of the terrain instead. It doesn't always have to be the bldg that becomes the symbol. Either way, making a symbol is so "painless" & quick, that changes to the model wouldn't seem to be that big a deal.
But, the original post is spot on. Should be able to copy/paste the terrain perimeter from one plan to another.
    Thanks, Jim

    I agree....

I suspect that Chief has issues with the copy due to differences in the "origin" ???

I just did this yesterday. Went to old plan with the terrain elevations I wanted. Selected them using Shift hold, select. I did not select the terrain perimeter. Then copy. Back to new plan and pasted them in. Voila, done. I did have to reposition them but it worked fine. I then added a terrain perimeter and all was right.
