Dormer and Bonus Room
Hey everyone,
Ive posted my plan and 3 images of what im trying to do.
Problem 1 - I am trying to add the dormer to the front, but I cant get the interior view to look right - trayed ceiling over the dining area and vaulted in the living and entry - i havent tried the tray yet, just want to get the ceiling right first. Not having luck with the dormer.
Problem 2 - bonus room over the garage and washroom area, cant get that to work either.
If you have time to take a look that would be great - thanks!!!!

I did a video of the work I did on your plan (you should change your signature to state that you now use X5, I tried to open it in X2 first, then X3, X4 etc). It will be on my You Tube Channel when it is finished formatting and uploading. When ready, I will post a link to it for all interested:

David I noticed a couple of things. for getting that drywall surface on the underside of the roof planes ,I use this setting-- I also noticed a lot of zero layers in his ceiling structure. I try to delete those as they could be trouble and have caused me some trouble.

Thanks Perry, my purpose was not to solve all possible problems, at least not pro bono, thanks for the observations!

Background: I am not an architect, I work for a company doing document prep. We do mostly commercial work, so the houses are a bit differnet for me. Most things we do dont involve pitched roof planes - we do alot of interior 3d stuff.
I am working through the video, first question.
Trayed ceiling - so the dining room has the trayed ceiling, entry beside it has the cathedral ceiling, living room on opposite side has cathedral ceiling (scissor trusses) - if i set the height of the trayed ceiling to anything above the default ceiling height it puts a ceiling everywhere - entry and living room. In your video you raise it up, then add the soffits and the ceiling planes which I can do, but I cant raise the ceiling....any thoughts?Steve Young

i see how to raise the ceiling height on the dining room, i raised it to 11' to the put in the tray ceiling below which will finish at around 9' - but when I raise the dining ceiling it automatically puts a flat ceiling in the entry and living room where there are no ceilings defined.
