Remodel Plan - How not to show demo'd room in 3D Camera ?
I am working on my first remodel plan and have the as built plan completed. I have one room that is to demo and will add another two story addition in its place. I have moved walls, windows, doors and misc existing items to a Demo layer and can turn them off in 3D. I am faced with the remaining room items... slab, moldings, floors, etc. Is there any way to put these on a layer that can be turned off as well and not delete the room?

Alicia, I don't approach or believe in doing remodels the way you are doing it. Of course some will dissagree. I will be surprised if you don't have problems down the road. But something you could try is to make one of the walls "no room definition".

If I understand from the prior thread, I should just dump the idea of keeping new and remodel in one file. - I have created an "as built" mask and positioned it in the plan. Then have the "as built" file and the new version of the remodel plan in separate files? I should be able to set up roof alternatives, etc using different layer sets? -- Then feed different plan sets into one layout?Alicia Kinard

Alicia:
at this time Chief doesn't allow for rooms to be totally invisible
we don't have total layer control to make this possible
until Chief allows for the as-built and the remod and various alternatives to co-exist in one plan
you will have to create separate plans
Softplan has this feature but Chief doesn't - maybe some day ???

The no room definition does allow it to be not selected to display in 3D .... However, I lost my room structure and it is popped up in the air when you show it... not a great answer.
How should I approach this?Alicia Kinard

2 separate plans, 1 for the existing ,and 1 for the remodel. Use cad lines for the wall removal,( the quick way), or do what I like and use a cad mask of the existing, set behind the floor plan, so when you remove a wall the mask wall and windows and doors shows up.

Well, I showed Alicia how I do it and my way is soooo less confusing. Ill have to look at CA's video and see what they're saying. If they're telling her to do it the way she did then I disagree bigtime.
I looked at the X1 vidoes and I have to say I would never do mine like that. I however don't use the material list which is the only thing I can think of that would be benificial. Otherwise, it's way too much work. I've had a few plan checkers and many builders comment on the way we do out remodel plans. On a complex remodel, I think you could possible have problems too.Tommy Blair
