How to change the page numbering

Hello,

How can I change the page numbering? Right now it numbers each page starting A-1, A-2, etc. Can I change it to C-1 and have some drawings with a different letter designator?

Each page will have to have it's own pg number. Don't try to put it on pg0.

Go to page A-0 and double click the A-0. Then change the "A-%page%" to whatever you want. If you want C then "C-%page%". This will put C in front of all the pages. If you want different letters within the same layout someone else will have to chime in on that. From what I can tell you would have to do different layouts and modify each ones A-0 page.

Scott did a video that show how to do it.

Basically I think his method is to start with 101 and each additional discipline starts with 201, 301, 401, etc.
He then places a text block on each page with an opaque background which has "A-", "C-", "S-", etc. to cover the first number so page 101 appears as "A-01" and page 201 appears as "C-01", etc.

101 = A-01
102 = A-02
103 = A-03

201 = C-01
202 = C-02
203 = C-03

301 = S-01
302 = S-02
303 = S-03

If you will always have 9 or fewer pages per section you could just number each section as 01-09,11-19,21-29,31-39,41-49.....

I'll have to watch Scott's video, but to use a discipline-type sheet numbering setup, i.e., A for architectural, S is structural, E electrical, etc., and doing 101 as the first page of each discipline, one would need to do a separate layout file for each discipline, to begin with 1 for each.

One can always just scratch the auto page numbering on layout page zero, from the out-of-box setup as "A-%page%" to just plain nothing, blank, null, and then simply label the pages yourself, keeping it all in one layout file. You are just leaving out the macro that enters the layout page number in the title block, and controlling page numbering manually.

And you can shuffle pages to your heart's content, so that the sequence going from 1,2,3 . . . and up looks right to you as you page through. Title page, site, architectural, architectural details, foundation, foundation details, structural, etc., etc.

36 pages into a big complex project, and needing to add another page of architectural details? Next up in the A-200 series, say, A-206? No problem. Your next page is 37, but you label it A-206, then shuffle it back so it is in sequence in the layout file, and right after A-205.

But maybe Scott has something I don't know about. Better find that video.

Edit: Nothing in the Scott Hall sections on ChiefTutor.com is labeled layout page numbering. Must just be buried in there somewhere, as an aside in some topic or other. No time for looking.

What you're describing is exactly what I do. It's a waste of time & energy to try & use a page macro if you want a "discipline-type sheet numbering setup". Set up your sheet index & page/dwg #'s once in your layout template/profile & then you only have to make minor edits on a per plan basis.

after A-205 then label it A-206

why go to the end and then shuffle it back ???

You missed the point. Pages 101-199 are Acrhitectural, 201-299 are Structural, etc.

There is a Text Block on each page with a solid white background with "A-", "S-", "P-",... and it covers the 1st number so that the only thing you see is A-01, A-02, A-03, .... S-01, S-02, S-03,...

I'm not going to waste my time and do a video. However, if you look closely at the pic below you will see the concept.

The A-, S-, P-, E- have a solid background fill and when placed so that they cover the first letter of the sheet number it results in the result you see in the right hand column. This is really all there is to it.

BTW, I have my Layout Template set up with pages 101-120, 201-220, 301-320,,,,,,
and already have the Discipline Text Block on each sheet for it's range. So when I send to Layout Sheet 105 it simply shows as A-05 (the 1 is covered) and when I send to Layout Sheet 213 it shows as S-13 (the 2 is covered)

Do it once in your Layout Template for each sheet and you don't have to bother with it again. You just have to remember that the 100's are Architectural, the 200's are Structural, the 300's are Plumbing, the 400's are Electrical, etc.

Once all the Layouts are done, I simply delete the unused Sheets or just don't print them.

Yes, but I set mine up with a maximum of 20 sheets per discipline (10 for most of them) and just send to layout page# according to what it is. It's also helpful if you have a standard order and a Sheet Index to refer to.
