Batt hatch?
Using version X3
is there a Batt insulation hatch I can find to apply to all my plan views to depict stud wall insulation?
I love and greatly miss how extensive the AutoCAD hatch possibilities were since switching to Chief Arch.
any help would be great.
i don't see anything on 3D diva.com....

You can import any .pat files from AutoCAD, placing them in your "Patterns" folder:C:\Program Files (x86)\Chief Architect\Chief Architect Premier X5\Patterns (I have done so myself) and then apply them to objects in Chief. You can also (only for the avid) write .pat files yourself using "Notepad" and then save them as a .pat file (I have seen it done but have forgotten how, not being avid myself).

In plan view, the only way I know of is to use the Cad...Boxes...Insulation tool and do it manually, which could be a bit tedious if you have a lot of walls.
Autodetail does this in section, but not plan view.Glenn

There is the "Hatch Wall" tool (I think that was around in X3...?)

Kevin,
Have you actually done an insulation hatch that way?Glenn

Professor,
What sort of pattern are you looking for? There are many hatch fills that you can use in a wall layer. Typically Chief sets this OOB to a solid color but you don't have to leave it that way. You can also use a 2D CAD Block on a Distributed Path to enhance the CDs. The one thing that Chief doesn't do is non-linear Line Styles - other than Text Characters.Joseph P. Carrick, Architect - AIA

Joe,
I believe he is looking for an insulation hatch - the "squiggly" one that you get in section when you auto detail insulation, or the same one you get with the Insulation Box tool.
As far as I know, these are not available as a normal hatch pattern.Glenn

Any repeatable pattern can be created using .pat files (ACAD Cross Hatch) which are just text files defining a series of line segments that get repeated. I could do it but there would need to be one for each wall thickness. About a month ago I posted a thread about these XHatch files. I would need to check to see if there is something already available and if they can be used for the fill of a wall layer.

I just checked and could not find such a pattern in Chief's Libraries - but if you have one from ACAD or elsewhere I can set it up to work in Chief very easily. I would set the scale so that it represented a 1" thickness and then for a 4" stud wall you would just set the scale to 3.5 and for a 6" stud wall set it as 5.5
I will look on the internet and see if I can find the pattern. If not I'll work on creating one this weekend.Joseph P. Carrick, Architect - AIA

See if this comes through. Scale is set for 5.5" wall.

I found this on the internet. It almost works but there are some scale and origin issues.
I've tried setting this to a scale of .008333 but it doesn't quite work. I think this one was probably defined in mm rather than inches so it's too big and doesn't align well with the edge of the wall layer.Last edited by Joe Carrick; 12-05-2012 at 08:58 PM.

Yeah, the scaling is off for sure. Don't like the repeating pattern either. OK, I tried the batt hatch I posted above and it does not work like it should. I use a symbol in acad of a single pattern and then just copy it as much as needed. Its all coming back now that the batt hatch pattern was difficult to scale correctly and so most just abandoned it. I can give you the symbol (block in acad terms) if you want to start with that instead of recreating the wheel.
