Not a material - a "Panel". You have to specify the Railing as "Panel" and then in the Mullions Tab select the Panel from the Library.

For Rick, I've bumped this Thread up. It's still a great idea - wonder if it made X6?

yes, VERY good thread Joe - thanks.

It also supports my other post since its obvious Chief can do all this - they need some non-specific tools for building components like this so we don't say to ourselves: "I need to build a window wall and doorway, so I should use the "railing" tool.

A good example of users being ingenious, and the software NOT being intuitive.

(sorry I realize I am being repetitive)

But it still needs to be classified as a "Wall". But maybe it needs to show up in the "Window Schedule".

    Rick,

You have to close the Plan before you can zip and post it.

    Rick,

That's pretty good but it still has a bit of a problem with the Door (Frames don't quite work right) but it's a fairly good way to accomplish a window wall.

Exactly! Pretty good, not good enough. If we had the ability to edit door frame depth, width and shape, I'd be very close. Also, each end window mullion abutting a wall is only 1" wide, not 2". But I'm making a kludge. Still working on your railing wall solution...

The nice part of the railing wall solution is that you just have one continuous window wall and if you move the door everything adjusts. But as noted above, there are some other problems.

what I would like to add if Chief is watching this - aluminum window frames/walls like this are becoming common in modern homes. Its just not in commercial buildings where you would expect to find this.

Fortunately for me, Vectorworks has a custom wall/window maker for these types of window walls - so I can create inside Vectorworks and export/import into Chief. I've actually tested several objects that I can make in Vectorworks and the export/import works - would be better if Chief allowed Collada support. Here is a custom steel truss made per spec in Vectorworks imported into Chief. Again, I have tons of commercial things I can create in Vectorworks I can't in Chief - I created a custom escalator in 20 sec and imported. I didn't bother with materials etc - just frames.

[QUOTE=Joe Carrick;452838]The attached pic shows something that is pretty easy to create using Chief's standard tools.

    What is it?

    How was it created?

This is a 1 hr quiz. After that I will explain and provide a few suggestions for how Chief's tools can be improved to make it even easier.[/QUO

Railings, wouldn't it be great if Chief had the ability to do this without work-a-rounds!!!!!!

    Johnny,

I believe that what you are importing is a Symbol. Am I right?

If so, then it might be a Window, but it's not a Wall and You can't insert a Chief Door into it.
