Chad,
I have no idea why the adjust lights dialog box won't show up.
The 260 degree sun angle is not a recommendation it just so happen that I am shooting the back of the building. See sun angle illustration below.
Also attached is my raytrace exterior setting without using photons. (Make AO max value to 1 if you are going to use photon mapping)Jintu E.P. Montego

Jintu,
This is so strange. I have been on here, doing the online tutorials and have been sitting here for four hours tinkering around with the adjustments. I was so frustrated with the proper dialogue boxes not showing up, that I just said screw it and shut chief down completly. Then when I opened the same exact plan up again, all the right dialogue boxes were there... HUH??
Previously, it just kept opening the sun angle spec like time date, timezone etc. but no way no how on the sunlight default spec. Now it pops up first thing... so weird.
Im just glad its working now.
So I tried all the selections but now the only thing Ive come across when I make all the necessary adjustments like you prescribed is the large trees and such cast no shadows but the house does. Is this how its suppose to be in final view with shadows? Do the tree shadows come up when you raytrace? If not how do we work with those?Chad Cardin

Trees will cast shadows in raytraces but not in final view. It could be a bug or by design.

Hmm interesting. Yeah I couldnt tell you if tree made shadows in past versions in rendering and raytracing since I never did it. Do you recollect it happening in previous versions?

The same is happening with the previous versions, some solids won't cast shadows either.

Ok, heres my very first exterior raytrace. I went to begin to start my second one but then chief starting acting weird again and not showing me the sunlight default and only the sun angle specs. When I continued searching for it, a warning message came up of an SEH error message and then X5 crashed and shut down.
Then this is the kitchen that belongs to this model. I wanted to have a contrasting interior style. The exterior is mellow and relaxed while the interior is high contrasts and glitzy finishes.Chad Cardin

Nice renders. Your trees do cast shadows but hardly noticeable as they are facing the camera and perpendicular to the sun. Move the sun or use 3d trees.
Using Ambient Occlusion will enhance details of objects, try to turn it on too.

Yeah maybe its getting overworked with all this rendering!
Yes, I will take a look at the 3d trees. I have no idea about what the selections are from 2d to 3d trees, I feel like Im learning chief all over again as Ive never explored this part of chief... kind of fun, that feeling of something new.
I will keep playing with the raytrace selections, thanks for all your help and input on recommendations Jintu!Chad Cardin

Chad,
Whilst I can't speak for X5's RT capabilities. 3D trees really bulk up your plan and drag RT times out. Consider using a couple where you want good effect and then keep using the plant images in other areas. Also with the plant images try readjusting the sizes of the individual plants so it doesn't look they they all rolled off the same clinical assembly line.Chief Bug Fix Department
