So do you change any of the settings ever on the advanced tab?

There is no other settings to adjust in the advanced tabs except for those radio buttons, I don't use that tab.

Thanks guys! I will check this out. I guess I built up the exterior raytraces to be more then they are since I thought there was a lot more involved with sun, environment etc.

Jintu that is a really good ray-trace. Its a great example of what Chief is capable of - nobody should be able to find fault with that level of quality.

Unfortunately it makes mine look very basic!

It's really not that much more involved.

Use the 'light bulb' icon and adjust the two sun angles in the light dbx.

Leave environmental light and photons off while you're testing to speed things up and try different sun intensities. You can also use the 3D defaults for adjusting exterior ambient as well to brighten/darken a scene.

If you have the env. light and photon off you can get an idea within 30 - 40 second of where you're and start adjusting.

AO: minimum 0.1; max.: 2 or 3

Nice Jintu and your sun angle is set nice and low to get those long shadows - important IMO.

Shadows on grass help hide flatness of its texture I guess.

I only used the sun, rotated at 260 degrees.

Hey Jintu I did not know about that default sun setting - we have been asking for a while to be able to set the sun independently of true North. Is it one of those hidden gems slipped into X5 or has it been there in previous versions?

I had a quick try on a job and the attached pic took 10 minutes - it is still not 100% but definitely an improvement.

Marty, That setting was there in X4 as well. Jintu turned me on to it and now I don't mess with North arrows and CAD sun angles - just change those setting and away you go. There's a pretty complete help file on the settings and which way to move them (increase/decrease) to change the angle for the direction of your property.

The default sun setting has always been that way since I first use Chief. that was V10. It is much easier to adjust the sun using the lit bulb icon in render view than in the cad tools.

With the north pointer and sun angle from CAD in the plan which settings dominate, those or the ones in the RT dbx? Each have settings for color and intensity.
