    Auto roof return problem

Hi, I often use auto roof return option in my plans but mostly, one of the auto roof is not drawn and I finish to create it manually,

    Somebody have an Idea ?

You do what I do when the auto tools fail (what else could one do?).

Not being a programmer, software engineer or architect what else could anyone do, short of re-writing the applicable code/scripts?

I am also sure that if Chief Inc could write perfect, omniscient/omnipotent software, they would. What they have done is pretty darn good most of the time otherwise so I do not mind filling in for it occasionally.

But I do "feel your pain" and understand why one would ask.

    Cliff is fine.

If the return gable does not work on the main wall sometimes you can find a bonus.

Go to the attic wall and hit return gable. Of course the "machine" will tell you not to mess with it but be brave and cancel the warning.

It does not always work. But when it does, I get to look smart and write back on Chief.

    Just call me Lucky.

It could be that there is a deck rail intersecting at the return wall. Unhook the deckrail, see if the auto return works, then reconnect the wall. If the return goes away again, report the bug to tech support.

this is trouble. the deck rail interrupting the auto return is exactly the problem i'm having. what can i do? I don't even see how i can select the auto return to edit it manually.

In my other thread this kind of issue makes my point completely - Quirky. I am glad there was a work-around, and I am sure most of us agree CA is still better than the rest in 3D BIM.

Victor, Try pulling the railing away from the house. Open the wall and uncheck, then re-check "Auto Roof Return" and hopefully the return will build. Then try reconnecting the rail.

I've tried all that and to no avail. furthermore, i just upgraded to X5 and thought maybe it would behave better however unlike in X4 the X5 version won't even rebuild it correctly once i pull the railing away. I've rebuilt them manually but now i must show them without gutters because i can't get the gutters to wrap. I spend about 60-70% of my desk time trying to work out about 5% of the overall model. Yikes!!

Try to use the railing from the Straight Wall Tools for now, it will work.
