I've done a bit of study on this and here's what I've found:

The Large Arched opening with the glass panels on each side and over the top has to be created and displayed in 3D. It can then be converted to a "Doorway" symbol using the Create Symbol Tool.

Then when it's placed in a wall a door can be selected from the library and place in the opening.

IOW, it's a Doorway with a Library Door placed in it.

There are some Doorways in the Library that can be used to see how this works. The difficult part is creating the Doorway symbol in the first place. BTW, I think the way to do this would be to make the "Stone Coated Foam" surrounds as Casings using Molding Profiles. That would make the "Doorway more flexible for future uses.

I tried this and it did not work. Maybe you can post a plan with what you have described. Here is a link to a video trying to do what you suggest but it was essentially an utter failure. I must be missing something

Scott, I will look at your video first to figure out what your problem is. Then I'll post an example.

I'm not going to try to show you how to create a doorway symbol. It's not that difficult.

Oh darn, free golf. I guess I'll have to work on it. Give me a couple of hours - I'm in the middle of some other work.

OK Scott, here's a real quick example. I need to refine my opening symbol to match what Kathleen needs and then I will need to make special half arched doors as well.

Note that the doorway has to be very accurate dimensionally for it to work exactly but it will work.

Still need a couple of hours.

So, if I was to guess, this is not behaving as a CA ENTRYWAY behaves, in that you cannot simply put a door into the ENTRYWAY..... you are using a symbol for the DOOR itself which does not auto display the swing arc etc. I will be interested in seeing the plan. If this is the case, this was my initial idea on how to achieve this.............. but I would like to be able to create an ENTRYWAY similar to what CA has in the library.

As my mother used to say, "There's more than one way to skin a cat".

I've used a Chief window as the starting point.

This is just a quick sketch to show the possibility. I've just used a few molding polylines to create a rough idea of the doors and side lites. I turned these polylines into a symbol. I then applied the symbol as a treatment (in this case a blind)>

It will adjust to the size of the opening, and I can control its position (fore and aft) using the symbol origin.

Yea, again my first thought to approaching the issue, but can't we create an ENTRYWAY in the manner that CA has done. That is what I want to do, create an ENTRYWAY as the SUPER GEEKS do.

    Hi Scott,
I was just going for the quick and easy; of course, we can create a very elaborate entry way as a doorway symbol. Almost any design is possible within Chief.

The down side of creating a doorway symbol is that I"m stuck with whatever casings, Keystones, etc, that I've created. And the cad block associated with it will be wrong in this particular case.

When I use a Chief window I have more control, I can change casings, the capital, and even the "blind" treatment at will.

I understand, of course to get the DOOR/SIDELIGHTS into the DOOR SCHEDULE is possible with a little bit of monkeying around, but easily doable. There you go Dr. K., Bill Emery and Joe have spoken and it looks like their method may be the way to go to get what you want. Please stay tuned for more high drama...............

OK, here's my Doorway with a half arch Door inserted from the library. Sorry about the lack of detail on the door and no mullions on the archway.

As far as the Door/Window Schedules are concerned - I would spec this as a special bit of millwork anyway.

Now Scott, I don't want to play inland where it's too hot. We need to get a tee time at Encinitas Ranch or ??????

Joe, I will not buy you a round of golf unless you post the plan, if you post the plan.............. then..................... Encinitas Ranch it is Good Buddy. If I see a plan today, I will set up a tee time for next Thursday after noon if that works for you, I will even call Bruce to see if he will join us. BTW, the detailing is not important, thanks JC.
