HELP!?? - Emergency Transfer Pass??
OK, so I am really in trouble. I had to get a new hard drive and need to finish a project tonight. I thought I could reinstall CA just fine, but it is asking for a emergency transfer password. WHEN THE HECK did I ever set that up? How do I get it?
I dont remember setting anything like that up. In fact, I installed a trial version of CA and then purchased - so maybe that is my problem since I skipped something I would have done on a normal purchase.
Thanks for any help.

During the installation of the software (not the trial version), you had to of entered a key code. On the preceding successful activation screen, you are given the emergency activation password, and admonished to keep in a safe place.
You aren't the first to have spaced on than, and I'm sure not the last.Kind Regards,

i can't even remember that - but didn't i just keep the trial installed and enter a new key/code?? In which case I would not have had that screen - or maybe I did and just didnt notice since it was a trial version.

I feel your pain.
CA thinks that the program on the dead HD is still working.
you have a couple of choices. 1. go to your digital locker to find your emegancy transfer password or 2. Contact CA when they open for them to deactivate and then put in your normal licence code provided by CAGraeme Taylor

I don't think it is in your digital locker, but I could be mistaken.
I think you are stuck until Chief opens in the morning.
Sorry.

here is the link to the digital locker
http://login.chiefarchitect.com/login
not sure if you already looked there
this is one of the reasons why I always purchase the hardware lock
Yet, they can break also

hmmm, I just check my digital locker and it appears that the Emergency transfer code is not stored there
the product code is there but not the ETC ???
I know I stored mine on my harddrive as a .txt file
then I emailed it to myself so that if my PC or hard drive died
I could still find it
I think you are SOL until tomorrow
the client should understand and if they don't
well I guess they will have to get over it

Chief runs with a "software" lock, which you are using now. To operate, it periodically needs to link with CA's server.
And, as you know, must be deactivated before you can use it on another computer (or new hard drive).
A hardware lock (usb key) is available for purchase that will replace the software lock. Just move the usb key to a different machine, and you're good. No internet connection needed.
This works well for some people, although CA doesn't really like this option as they say it is more problematic.

The E.T.C. is shown when installing the first time, you have to copy or print it out if you might need it later. I wonder if it would show again if you delete any reference to Chief in the registry?

I wish CA would store the emergency transfer code in the digital locker
If they can store the product code there why not the ETC ???
