Just a footing?

Is there a tool just for that?

That's not the same as just a footing..
I have been using that and then changing the layer or using the post tool and deleting the post.

I use solids for that type of thing. For simple rectangular shapes you can draw them in plan view and then move them to the correct elevation.

For more complex shapes I create polyline solids to subtract the unwanted volumes.

These tools are not the most user friendly that I have ever seen, but they can be used for a great many things that the program does not directly provide.

There doesn't seem to be any good way to do those in Chief, and I think there really should be. I use them all the time in houses we build. Basically we pour all the footings at once and the ones that run inside the crawlspace don't get foundation walls on them.

I've tried using foundation walls with footings and making the wall height zero, but it changes to full height once it snaps to the other foundation walls. It seems there should be a way to use that tool, just haven't figured it out yet.

I do the same way as Rod. In plan draw your footings then convert to slab,change the line style to dashed. Cut a section and adjust the ht. Add a 2x6 wall on top and I'm done.

Why change line style, put it on footing layer

Would an invisible wall with a footing work? Place the invisible wall on the foundation level and turn of the layer, the footing will stay.

This is a basic building tool..

can you give a screen shot, are you talking about a linear footing or a pad type footing and what is it's function? I'm thinking you're talking about a couple pad footings that are intended to keep the slab from dropping or sagging due to settlement in the middle of a basement?-BB
