Door or Window ?
Where do you put a Sliding Glass Door - Which Schedule ?
I'm divided on this myself. I consider them to be doors, but they are generally provided by the Window Sub-Contractor.
If I put them in the Door Schedule the Plan Checker is happy because he can see them as egress units. OTOH, the Window Sub Contractor might not see them and not put them in his bid.
OTOH, If I put them in the Door Schedule then I can specify any extra hardware requirements.
If I put them in Both Schedules it can get duplicated - Oooops! Chief should change that so that they can't be in both.Last edited by Joe Carrick; 07-06-2012 at 05:17 AM.

I have always put them in the door schedule. But I can see your predicament. I guess, maybe, put them in both?

Also, if you have them in Both Schedules then the Plan Callout Label will be whichever schedule was created last.

Does anyone draw interior views of the doors and windows?
It's a big help and ensures that nothing gets omitted when sending the Door and Window package to the different vendors for pricing.Val

Val,
Great, I do a similar drawing but I add the window/Door number i.e. W04 over each window/door and it matches the plan.William Page Architects A.I.A.

In clad window land, where often the windows and "patio" doors (hinged or sliding, but basically, doors with full-glass lites) are from the same manufacturer, it can make sense to schedule such doors with the windows.
This, because one set of notes about specs, finish, glass, etc., can apply to the whole schedule. It simplifies purchasing.Gene Davis

Val,
I think window details like the ones you attached are an excellent idea. I recommended to one custom builder a while back that he include window details like that so we knew where he wanted the openings framed. Adding header heights to those details would make them even more useful.Michael

Thanks guys for the feedback. The 1/2" scale elevations are easy to generate. (And yes I do place numbers on them when they're done. Rough openings too. )
By placing only dimensions on the unit size, we can ask all the vendors to offer a variety of pricing (for different brands) rather than just sticking with Marvin for example. It's also helpful to see the trims and identify a condition where a window might conflict with a vanity or cabinet.
But better yet, the elevations come across as a big plus to the drawing package which helps add value to the service.Val

I put them on the window schedule, which I call the "Window & Clad Door Schedule". Any door that comes from the wdw mfr- sliding, folding, french- is on this schedule. The clad wdw/door supplier sees everything on one schedule.
Since the bldg dept where I work requires that egress window or doors be labeled as such on the floor plan, there is no problem.
