    Please clarify ???

    which version of chief ???

are you trying to set scale for plan or for layout ???

    imperial or metric ???

plans are always done in 1:1 scale

when sending views to layout you choose the desired scale

The only thing I send to layout at an engineering scale is a site plan. All site plans should be at that scale. Here, the surveys (site plan for project) should always be in decimal feet. The property lines should generally be carried out 2 decimal points and everything else including building structures should be dimensioned out 1 decimal point. That's standard here. Most of my site plans can be done at 1" = 10' or 1" = 20' (on ArchD paper 24"x36")

when you send a plan to layout, in the scale box set it to 1"=50' or whatever you need rather than the 1/4"=1' that shows in the box. That will give you the "engineers scale" you are looking for.

That scale would be for a freaking huge property but I realize that's just an example.

Yes you can. Choose ""Decimal places" instead of the default "smallest fraction" under "Primary Format" in the Manual Dimension defaults dialog box.

I'm not 100% sure but you have to manually edit the rest if you want an exact measurement like this = 1'-0.25" (1"-0.1/4")

Change it in you dimension defaults. (if you're using a layerset for the site plan)

Ah...you can find it in "Primary Format" > Format. you can either use the sign ' or Feet. Again, choose "Decimal Places" instead of "smallest fraction"
