    Well looks like I need to let go of my old ways and spend a few evenings playing around with this in CA. Thanks for the input everyone - I'll let you know how I go with it - would love to see the 80 house project when your done.......

    I have never exported a model to symbol.so please excuse my ignorance. If the Master site was done in Chief what is the best to export the model to? 3DS ?

    From there I can import this model to a master site for simple master site views showing the progress as homes are designed ? Understanding I may need to erase the site and any items not needed for this master model ?

    You don't need to go the export/import route to get your symbol.
    In a 3D view go Tools...Symbol...Convert to Symbol.
