    Window Boxes

What is the best approach to build window boxes? I run across these every now and then and they are always a pain. I also need the shadow box inside this produces when built on site.

Best is a matter of opinion, I draw a room for the window box set its floor higher than the first floor and then cover the missing exterior under the window with a poly-line solid.
The "Best" thing about this is that it works only.

I do it the same way David does. This method also allows you to assign a different wall type (I.e. white panel) for the exterior.

In x4 you can set the underside material in the material dbx of the room-no need for p-solid anymore.

    Tim,

I don't know if it helps much, but you can get this sort of effect with the standard window dbx.

Hmmm, but does that solve the problem of when you raise the floor height you get that blank spot on the wall underneath it? I have to go try this.

I like Glen's method. It gets the window out thee without any additional walls. You could add the trim and other details with p-solids.

Like so - sometimes the whole wall under is missing, but here you can see the stripes I'm referring to.

Wow! Since I haven't done this in X4 yet, I thought I would do it. This works perfectly in X4. Perry, I'm not having his problem either. I too don't know what he's doing. I was going to post a fix for something else I thought he was talking about that you had to do in earlier versions, but yea, works great in X4. Actually now that I think about it, I haven't had any problems with this since X3. (I know...double negative...bad)

    Perry/Tommy,

Did you open my plan and see if the behavior is the same for you? If so it would be a problem with my defaults I guess.

Please let me know - I know you guys are busy but I appreciate your input here.

    Thanks,

    Rich

Rich what I found out is that I didn't cut the wall and make it invisible like you did. There is a way to show it correctly, just do an interior elevation and pull the wall down at the box out. Then you need to use a p-line solid filled as a cover up of the wall for the floor plan to show correctly.
Tommy, did you break the wall and call it invisible. I think it is the same problem we have with moldings around invisible walls.
