    topographical autocad import problem..help

Hi all, i need some help importing this cadd drawing into CA, the contour lines do not import. I have tried making them terrain lines and not and in both instances they do not show up. Can someone have a look and see if they can import this dwg. The units for import are m.
    Thanks in advance.

I have found that when it come to topo lines, you are better off drawing/tracing over them. When you import dwg topo lines, they end up having way too many segments, and completely slow down a plan.

You need to rescale the lines, they are too small to see without that.
They are there just way too small.

Andy, I am not sure what you mean. I have imported the drawing and every thing is the proper scale, how could the contour lines be a different scale?

Ah, I see, the units are in meters and imported as mm.
Perhaps you can use the All-on Set to see if the layers are turned on.

I tried the all on set, it seems that the contour line labels are on the contour level as well as a few contour lines but most contour lines are not there.
I was hoping someone could try importing and see if they get the same thing.
I do not have a working copy of autocad to test to see if the contour lines are there.

Flatten contour lines before exporting to Chief.

Lines are drawn above Z axis.

Cad drawing is not to scale too.

    See attached.

Thanks by the way for looking at it.

Yes, i opened the cad dwg and it appears as you have said the contours are above the drawing in the z axis, would they not be based on the elevations that each line is?
Why wouldn't chief see this and import as required?

I have no idea why it would not import to Chief. You may have to trace the lines again.

Here's what the terrain would look in 3d.

I think Chief will only read lines if they are drawn at Z=0.
