X1 to HD10pro
Hi,
Can a plan thats been created in chief x1 be open and edited in HD10pro? From reading old posts, I think it should work as HD10 is newer than x1, so it should be able to open plans created in earlier version (it probably would not work in reverse), however there is an option that needs to be ticked in the 'plan defaults' to permit editing in HD. My question is, does that box need to be ticked before the plan is started? or can it be ticked any time? (eg: when the plan is finished, before saving or exporting?)
cheers

No, the match to Home Designer Pro 10, is Chief Architect Premiere X3.
Home Designer Pro 9 can share plans with X2.
Home Designer Pro 8 can share plans with X1.
Home Designer Pro 2012 shares plans back and forth with Chief X4.
That is the way that works.
In Chief "Plan Defaults" there is a check box for sharing with Home Designer titles which MUST be checked by the Chief Premiere user for the sharing to occur.

Thanks David,
Is there a way around?
1) Can the plan created in X1 be open in X3? then exported from X3 (with the 'allow editing in HD products ticked). Can that file then be opened in HD10pro?
or
2) Save the plan as DFX, then Import into HD? (I assume that with that method all the materials would be gone, leaving only the walls and roof?)

Chameau:
1. yes, X3 can open an X1 plan
X3 could then set the edit flag, then HD 10 could edit the plan
since HD10 is a sub-set of X3
2. I think only the wall(s) cad lines would remain
Chief has a "cad to walls" tool but I doubt PRO has it
even it does it doesn't work very well
so the recommendation is to just trace over the cad lines with wallls
then add doors and windows then auto-gen the roof (or do manual roof)
basically you would be starting over with the dxf "image" as a guide to be traced over

Thanks Lew,
That's great, however the designer that did the plan has no immediate intention on upgrading chief. So I have 2 options:
1) Purchase a copy of HD8 pro, open the X1 file in it, save it and then open the saved file in HD10 pro. As the current version is HD12, I doubt that I can find a copy of HD8!?
2) Find somebody with a copy of X3 that would be willing to upgrade my X1 file. The zipped file with materials is less than 5mb, so could be emailed. (I be happy to pay for the service). Thanks

Chameau:
no need to pay
send the plan to LBUTTERY@ CASTLEGOLDENDESIGN .COM
and I will open it in X3 and set the edit flag
