Tommy, with the SAM method, all your templates are within the one layout, using annosets in layout you just choose the layout you want .

Sorry, Tommy for the misunderstanding. With templates you can set them up anyway you want. I realize that and believe me, I know how to make templates. In fact, you just gave me a good idea for my next tip article, which will be on making templates. Look for it on my web site's CAD Corner. Any tips from you on making templates, as it appears you have plenty of experience, would be greatly appreaciated. I was referring to using the Save All function, which is featured as a tip I have already posted at CAD Corner. The tip is based on the SAM principle, developed by Scott Hall.

Is there a way to tell which plan file each "box" in layout is linked to? Let me explain. Plan 1.1 is linked to Layout 1.1. I make changes to the Plan 1.1 and save it as Plan 1.2. Now, I open Layout 1.1 and save it as Layout 1.2 and ONLY want Plan 1.2 to link to it. This way I don't have to recreate each Layout page but from this point on, only Plan 1.2 will linked to Layout 1.2 keeping Layout 1.1 only linked to Plan 1.1 (TWO SEPARATE plans and Layouts). I hope that was clear. Thanks.

Scott:
I use a different method
I have 123_MODEL.plan and 123_LAYPS.layout
I keep those names at all times for that project
I do "save as" often - sometimes every 5 minutes
I then change the name to 123_MODEL_130712_1500_LBX5.plan
and same for .layout
then immedialely save as 123_MODEL.plan and same for .layout
its quick - its fast - it gives me a backup at each save
and it keeps the plan and layout in sync at all times
