    Cubic Feet of Cabients X4

Does anyone know a simple way to calculate cubic foot storage for cabinets in X4?

    thanks!

If I ever had to do that (to date I have not) I would make poly-line solids which will, on their "Poly-Line" tab give you their volume in cubic feet etc.

in my process, I give a client 3 different designs, and in kitchens, the 2 questions that seem to come up are
    1. Which plan has more storage?
    2. Which plan has more counter space?

I can pull counter space from the material's list, but was hoping there was a method to pull cubic feet.

    thanks for the response!

It could probably be done with a macro. The width, height & depth are all properties of the cabinets so a macro should be able to return the volume.

I'm not a Chief macro expert however so someone else would need to figure out how to do it.

Most clients for most layouts are happy with a simple xyz" base, and xyz wall. If there are varied corner options (particularly for small kitchens) I do the math and calculate shelf space in sq inches. I usually do the math to calculate shelf space for storage since it is more accurate than volume when comparing layouts.
I only end up using volume to figure out what size truck I need and usually get that from t he mfg order, or I drop an item list into 2020 which will give you cubes.

I will just stick with "plan A has more cabinets than Plan B..."

I am only providing concepts, and don't really have the time to calculate, nor am I a macros guy.

thanks for all the suggestions though!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

The best way to calculate cubic footage of cabinetry is to create a macro using Ruby. There is a great tutorial video on how to create the macro you need at the Chief home page. I use Ruby alot and its a very powerful tool. With practice, it gets alot easier to use. There's so much you can do with it, I use it for calculating driveways and countertops alot, but that's just the tip of the iceberg!

I looked for it on CA home page but could not find it.
