Stair Railing ?
Is it possiable to do a raised shoe rail yet on stair rails.
I have checked the data base and have seen posts on solid objects solutions.
Thanks Michael

In Chief 9 (& I believe also in Chief 8) ...
Select the railing to be modified and open the Wall dialogue box
Select the Railing tab.
Click on "Raise Shoe". (second checkbox from the bottom on the left side)
Is this what you're referring to or did I misunderstand the question?Douglas Mosman

Doug,
Thank you for the reply.
What I was refering to was on a stair system railing.
I believe you are comenting on a railing to a deck or landing. I am aware of this procedure. If you know of a way to change the railing on a stair system please advise.
Thank you,
Michael

In my area that type of railing on a stairway will not meet code, that could be the reason CA doesn't do it. shane

Raised shoe on exterior stair railing is allowed in NC, and is widely used. Being a 'hands on' builder, I know that this method is popular and more time-consuming to construct than simply attaching balastuers to the outside of a stringer. As a designer, I need the availability of this method with Chief, as a lot of homes here on the coast, and elsewhere, use this style. BTW, "Isabel" did leave us a few habitable buildings, a 'NEW LOOK' to our beach and a whole lot of new work to be done!

Darrell,
If you want this sort of a look it is easy to do, just not via dialogue box entries. one would do it manually, rail by rail, balastuer by balastuer, newell by newell using slanted soffits or poly-line solids for rails and library objects for newells and balastuers for now. Depending on your patience and steady-ness of mouse doesn't take all that long.

David,
Thanks for the quick response. I have considered this approach in the past, however, just didn't take the time to try it. Usually, I just draw what the program will allow and if questioned about the style, reply that what is shown is a general idea and we'll build as needed.
My question now is, with CHIEF 9, can I draw as you suggest and then make this new rail style a symbol? Keep it in a library and reuse as needed? I'm in deep space when it comes to mastering this program, and with a busy 'crank it out workload', I'm learning on the go! Which is less than 'ideal' for such a GREAT program as Chief 9.03!!!! After 4 years of use, I'm amazed on a daily basis by Chief! Keep it up ART!

Darrell,
Yes, I can't see why you could not make a symbol out of it.
Just make sure you have nothing else in the plan when you export to dwg. I have on occasion deleted walls after I did some pline slabs that I converted to symbols and forgot to rebuild floors and ceilings and the floors etc showed up in the dwg even though I had deleted them.
Now, sizing them might be a problem unless you use it with the same number of steps with the same rise/run.

Darrell,
No need to make a symbol - why not just block them together and save them as a block.Glenn

Is it possible in 10.06a to have a raised shoe on a staircase using the stair dbx, or must one edit all of the ballusters and create a shoe?
Thanks

I think it's still manual. This is one thing I'd like to see change, though, since at least on decks the slanted shoe is common here.
