    Here's a brief explanation of how this works, and why it works.

    Our filler planes are already clearly defined by three points, but these points are meaningless to Chief unless we know where to put the base line.

    The construction allows us to find a second point on the plane at the same height. This allow us to draw a true length horizontal line. The true lenghth horizontal line is also our base line for the filler roof plane. Chief needs a base line that is connected to two points on the plane, the roof plane can then be rotated into place to form the filler.
