Probably. Try running in vista compatibility. Try a search. This has been discussed many times.

    Johnathan,

XP mode may work if Vista doesn't.
You will probably need to run as Admistrator and check Disable Visual Themes and Disable Desktop Composition.

Works with those settings on my system.

    Lew,

Pro has a fully working version of XP - not just XP compatibility.
Home Premium has XP Compatibility Mode.

Or at least, thats how it was.

    Johnathan,

I run Version 10 on my Windows 7 x64 partition, it runs generally "OK" (it runs slightly better on my XP x32 partition but having it readily available is often more important than slightly more stable operation).

I do not use an emulator or other vias to have it run on Windows 7, but you do have to download the latest Sentinel drivers designed for Vista-Windows 7 from their website.
There is a link posted on the Chief Architect Website under "Downloads".

Good luck with your laptop, not all PC's are created equal and performance quality varies, you would be best served to upgrade to Chief X4 (version 14) but that IS your choice.

Yes and NO . LOL Vista doesnt like chief 10 or X1 and the XP shell for vista n win7 doesnt help. But my Chief 10 does work as long as i dont use my mouse zoom tool. So it will be a hit or miss depending on your Divers of your system

No one has mentioned to use version 10b? It is my understanding that XP mode is only available TO Win7 Pro. And even then you need to go to MS website and download the emulator (virtual pc) and XP mode (copy of xp).

    Sam,

People get confused with XP mode with W7.
    Basically...
XP Mode can only be run in the higher versions of W7 (not Home). It consists of a virtual machine running an actual installation of XP.

XP COMPATIBILITY Mode is available to Home versions (as are Vista Mode, W95, W98, etc. modes.)

    2 different beasts.

Have a read here for XP Compatibility Mode:

That sounds exactly like what I said.

As i said. Hit or miss . It depends on the combination of Motherboard, Video Card, Drivers etc for each person when using 10 or x1 with Vista, Win 7 and XP mode, I can run it all day long, but as soon as i use the zoom on my mouse it crashes. So some people might not have issues and others will

The mouse zoom is only a problem with certain mice. Prior to Vista these mice didn't send zoom events with the resolution that the mouse can actually support and so would work under XP. This issue was corrected in later versions of Chief, but some mice either don't or can be configured to not send the higher resolution scroll events.

While we don't support running version 10 under Windows 7 you should be able to get it to work OK running under XP compatibility mode. There are a few things that simply don't work right though. You must have it turn off desktop composition which is real annoying as it affects all the other applications running on your system too.

I don't know about running under the XP virtual machine. It will be probably be different in what doesn't work. We do a fair amount of testing using virtual machines because it allows quick configuration of different OS configurations. Certain things like slowing the mouse don't work under the virtual machine we use. OpenGL acceleration is also hit and miss. Which is why we don't support Chief running under any virtual machine.
