Can CA9 Plan Files Convert to Home Designer 2012?

I own Chief Architect 9 but cannot afford $1300 to upgrade it to the current X4 release. The trial for Home Designer Pro 2012 will (with lots errors) open my CA 9 plan files, but it warns I cannot edit them. I tried "save as" hoping to save it in the new format for HD 2012, but the trial doesn't allow saving.

Are CA 9 files forever stuck in "read only" even with a paid version of HD Pro 2012? Or can they be converted into the new format and then edited?

    Thanks for any help!

Such files must first be opened in Version 12 or newer and while open set to (to give permission to) be opened and edited in Home Designer Titles.

Home Designer 2012 will not be able to open AND edit such files unless a Chief Architect license holder gives permission by the simple process described above. There is no other way possible.

PS:This is not a "Guess", I actually tried opening version 9 Chief files in Pro 2012 and then opened that same file in Version 12 and then in Pro 2012.

    David:

    I think X1 - X4 can set the flag

PRO 2012 is based on X4

send the plan to LBUTTERY @CASTLGOLDENDESIGN .COM
and I can save it via X4 with the edit flag set

no guarantees on textures or materials or "issues"

goinf from v9 plans to X4 is a big leap - lots of changes
