You might check out the thread “Sticky: How to get good answers when you ask questions”
Do you have a problem? --- are you planning to purchase the card? --- be more specific.
Happy New Year.

I'm thinking about buying a laptop with an ATI Radeon 6310 graphics card. Does anyone have experience with or recomendations for this card?

Gary:
I thought that was a fellow chiefer that said that ???
Nvidia has had a few issues with its latest drivers
and some chiefers have had to roll back to a prior driver
don't remember if that affected all Nvidia cards or just one model ???
I suppose its like anything else - roll the dice - take your chances

Unfortunately, my memory is lacking the details, but I do remember that ATI had an advantage (mainly because I have dual ATI cards).
Maybe Doug or someone from Chief can post what the latest findings are, of course, they would not be liable for anything, just their observations.
Also, it seams Chief is getting more and more dependent on the CPU for the raytracing, and not so much for the rendering aspect.Gary Doski

I don't really have any problems with my ATI card (see below) but it's not the exact same card as mentioned in the original post. All I can say is that it it's a switchable graphics, set it to run only on the graphics card or it won't run CA very good. You'll lose your battery charge faster though.

I’m running a single AMD Radeon HD 6870, Intel Core i7-2600, and 12GB DDR3 SDRAM with Windows 7 Professional and have had no problems to date. Of course, I’ve only had this computer for three weeks, so I have not tested all situations.

ATI (now owned by AMD) has always had good hardware and great directx drivers. The issue has been opengl support. Seems to be ok at this point....

ATI vs. NVIDIA is pretty much a wash these days. Both have had their issues with drivers depending on the card and year.
Generally NVIDIA has a slight edge but a fast ATI card can be a lot nicer than a slow NVIDIA card.
I would recommend looking at various 3D benchmark comparisons to get a feel whether a card is a good choice or not.Doug Park
