Automatic Deck Framing will not shut down.

I love the deck tools here but when I create a deck and attempt to modify after shutting down the automatic framing feature as the instuc's say it never shuts down and continues to redo my work. How do I get this beast to turn off?

    Thanks

Open the deck room, Deck tab - top left - two check boxes, one for automatic deck framing, and the other to keep framing if you remove the room.

    We always uncheck the first.

We often do check the second once the construction drawings are started, but leave it unchecked during design.

I wrote code in 1984 to make my Sinclair 100 - so I used to be a programmer! So I can say with authority how easy it is to program Chief features! ;-)

Make sure that you deselect it on every deck attached. I had a deck that was split by an invisible wall once that I forgot about and the auto deck was making me pull out my hair. If the decks are attached, make sure you turn it off on all decks. If this isn't your problem, you may have to post the plan so we can see what's happening.

That would be my suggestion as well. When you create 2 deck rooms that are divided by a common "wall," chief likes to frame them as one deck. This is a problem as I see it: On one hand there are times when you want to frame the decks as one. On the other hand, when you have a wrap around verandah, you may want the framing to run different directions on each side, and getting chief to overcome this is problematic. I usually adjust the floor level of one of the decks by 1/16" and that works.

If they are separate rooms, they should frame independently of each other.
I hope they get this corrected in V5.

These can also be found in Default Settings...Rooms...Deck Room...Deck tab.

Having the same issue. I've changed the default setting to remove all automatic deck framing, created and recreated the deck "room", turned off automatic framing on the specific room, and still the deck framing appears.

To delete the deck framing, try this: Edit>Delete objects>All floors>Deck framing. Click okay. See if that deletes the deck framing. Be sure you have auto deck framing unchecked first.

I have the same issue on a deck I'm working on as well. Its only a problem on one with an invisible wall separation. Both decks have all auto framing turned off and it keeps rebuilding after I delete it. Not too big a deal, but an annoying quirk at the very least.

It USUALLY doesn't rebuild for me either, just on this one deck (may have been others in the past but I don't recall).

I have had similar issues as well, in the past. Something about Chief's deck tools is just not quite right. I always have a devil of a time changing decking and framing direction. There are these check boxes in the dbx and they don't do anything most of the time. I always eventually find the problem, but it is frustrating. I'm getting old and I can't always remember the fix I used the last time. It just seems that it shouldn't be that difficult sometimes.
