Hey Doug, Thanks for the pointers.

Unchecking "Aggressive Cache Flushing" only shaved off 2-3 seconds, But the "Hardware Edge Smoothing" saved a good chunk! I'll leave them both unchecked.

    My New Times.

Render = too small to worry about
    Water colors w/Line drawing = 22.42 seconds
    with shadow = 54.50 seconds
    Raytrace = 38.76 seconds

One of the very annoying things going through this, is the drawing is redrawing itself constantly. It seems that any movement of your mouse triggers a redraw? You have to hit esc. a bunch of times. Anyone else seeing this?

Hopefully I'll never need to do that - I can't stand the appearance with it off.

ps: I'm using an NVidea 560M with 3GB Ram and my performance is excellent.

Hmmm, it makes no difference on my machine at all?

    Here are mine.

    Render: 2 sec
    Render + shadows: 24 sec
    Watercolor + line: 20sec
    Watercolor + line + shadows: 65 sec
    Raytrace: 36 sec

What are the standard raytrace settings?

The big differences in times seem to be the watercolor+line+shadows - mine seem ultra fast compared to others with times like 10 minutes! Are we all using the same technique?

    Size of the monitor matters.

The screen should not redraw when moving the mouse.

This may be caused by any number of things including mouse drivers. I never install the mouse driver that comes with the mouse unless I'm trying to debug a problem that they cause.

Actually, what usually matters most for both render and raytrace views is the resolution of the monitor (or the Chief window if you are not full screen). It's really all about the number of pixels needed.

Ok, there goes the bench mark!

    My is a 32" Acer 1920 x 1080

I wonder if there is a way to a common ground so we can really see what performs best?

    Dermot,

I've been considering getting a 40" LCD TV to use for Chief in my office. Would this be a bad idea?
Would it severely degrade speed of render views compared to a 20" monitor?
