Code Book
I need a Code Book. I guess the latest is 2009?
I checked out Barnes and Noble but it was confusing to me.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,Cliff

The latest is whatever the community you're working in has adopted. I did a project in Freeport Maine a few years ago and the code in effect was BOCA 1984. The only place to find this code was in the local library.
What was confusing about Barnes and Noble?Kevin Moquin, AIA, LEED AP BD+C

Kelvin,
Some of the books that do not state a year, like 2006, said complete building codes, etc. It was vague to me.
I kinda was looking for 2009- the latest in this area by some of our Counties. Some of them are using 2006.
Thanks, cliff

Cliff, I think Taunton Press publishes some code guides - you could check their site. ICC is the publisher of 2009 IRC - (the now current statewide code for me.) They are available at Amazon too.

Cliff,
If you are only doing residential work, get the IRC rather than IBC. The IBC covers ALL types of structures and can be hard to navigate for the uninitiated.

Thanks Kelvin,
I will check that out along withjay's idea.
After talking to Wendy Welton this morning, I need to get a education. I hope to have an architect and/or engineer on board if the situation comes up. Don't want to back myself in a corner.
I'm on my own now- don't have that builder of 23 years to take my "simple" plans I sold/designed and build from there.

Most States and Municipalities use The ICC code now as the basis for their building Code. Note that BOCA and the Southern council merged into ICC and now use that code.
THe ICC site is: http://www.iccsafe.org/Pages/default.aspx
You can buy the code on line there, they also have some good training Videos and you get a discount if you are a member. - A good choice.
You should also check with you local authority as most entities have taken some exceptions to the Code -- Not all parts are applicable. -- Sprinklers?Gerry

Cliff, a good place to start with be any book by D.K. Ching. This is a really good one for code understanding:

Lets see, the International Building code is now on 2012 version . Some states have adopted the 2009 ibc. New York has a 2010 building code that uses a modified version of the 2006 IBC. I am so glad they standardized it. Now that they revise it every 3 years I get to throw out $500 worth of books each time. Good Luck....!!

Thanks to all,
I ordered the IRC 2009 book, got the Virginia state on the screen (can not copy- those pot lickers), and I ordered Alan's book- Ching's code book illustrated, or "Illustrated Code Book for Dummies- part 1".Cliff
