Help With Stairs

I'm having some issues with stairs. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

I've attached a screen shot of what I've created (stairs.jpg) and a photo of what I'm trying to do (Goodyear BM1.jp)

1. I'd like no railings on the wall sides of the stairs. If I turn off "Railing on Left", CA removes the bottom wall railing (correct) but then removes the upper railing in the center (incorrect). "Railing on Right" does just the opposite.

2. My risers and treads are all carpet, however when I make the risers carpet, it shows the sides of the stringers as the same.

3. The stair railings will be built on a 2x4 wall, thus I'd like the sides of the stairs to show a 4" wall. I can "close the stringers", but then it's only 2" wide.
