Plate on top of Masonry Wall?

I like Glenn's method the best if we could only get the sill plate to show up.

So explain to me why it shouldn't work the way I outlined? I do want the Materials List to include CMU if that's what I'm using. If I use Bill's method it lists Concrete, not CMU.
