Dashed Lines

Is there anyway to determine what dashed lines will look like on a print out? Is there anyway to change the spacing? When zooming on the layout page or plan view, they appear to remain the same (the larger the view, the smaller the spacing). The printed result is often less than satisfactory. (dashes don't meet at corners or intersections, the whole dashed side of an item may be blank if it is short). I don't remember having this problem with Chief 97. Is it plotter related? (HP 450c) Thanks in advance.
