Without SSA and Chief now unstable
I didn't renew SSA on Feb 1. In the last day or so, Chief is not acting very unstable, had an exception error this morning with the database and was not able to get Chief running again until I did a system restore.
Now, it is taking several minutes(like 3-4 minutes)to load up on my system, and when it does, using the Library and trying to work with textures/symbols seemingly is causing the program to hang up..........which Task Manager confirms that it is in a non-responding mode. Along that same note, using the material painter or trying to change materials ALWAYS takes an extended bit of time to load or show the options to change them........really a long time!
The only changes to my computer took place yesterday with a download of Adobe Reader X and a Windows automatic update.
Without SSA now, how can I stablize Chief?Louie Carter

One or both of those updates could - in fact probably - are the cause of the problem. I would suggest a system restore to an earlier date.
I have had system stability problems after such updates, so you should be careful. Sometimes a proposed update is not actually from the source you think it is.
You should definitely do a scan with your anti-virus software.

my first guess is it is not a Chief problem - more likely that it stemmed from the recent install.

You might also want to download and run the "Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool" but it might not find some of the things that your Anti-Virus Software will.

What may have been my original problem was that I could not get the auto-update for Adobe Reader to complete due to a "permissions" error 1321 from Adobe. I could not get Adobe Reader 9.4 off the system........
After a system restore, Reader 9.4 would no longer print and Reader X would not load onto my system. If I go back to an earlier system restore point, I will reinherit the Reader 9.4 problem it would seem.
To get Reader X (10.1) onto the system, I had to use Safari browser and completely eliminate all Internet Explorer processes and browser openings that were active in order for the download to occur, along with execution of the install.
As to Chief, I was having the loading and Library problems well before the Adobe problems................Louie Carter

Louie:
1. try the above advice first
but I doubt if its a chief problem
2. try re-installing X3
3. contact tech support - they charge $125 (per call I think)
4. maybe renew SSA for $490
tech support is closed on the weekends
open 6 AM - 5 PM Pacific

There have been recent threads (posts) relative to the Library Browser ( I had a little slowness myself).
That was solved (for me at least) by removing duplicate library files from my Library browser ( I have a current SSA so I removed "Basic Content" since that is included within the SSA content, I also removed (deleted) two or three other duplicate libraries I accidentally installed twice).
Those actions eliminated the laggy-ness I had been experiencing using the LB.
Chief X3 is the slowest opening program I have on my PC next only to Outlook 2007 (a close second) then Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 6 (now almost an antique but still serviceable).
Once it is open it runs fine, plenty stable and reliable.

Thanks for the advice on the library............I need to check which ones I truly need and eliminate some of the others.

Louie:
when I search the library or browse the library I'm not having any issues
but then I'm not working on any projects at this time
so my usage is limited
