Is there any way to make them frosted glass and have it show up as frosted glass and not a color?

It's all in the material settings. You can copy a material thus creating a new one that you can set translucency, etc. You might start with "color white".

I like the following Material Properties:

General Material
85% Diffuse
30% Specular
50% Rough
15% Emissive
25% Transparency
0% Refletion

You can use all kinds of glass. Just need a jpg from the net (or somebody here) and make a material from it.
