Warning issue?
I finally got a new computer ( i7-2600k w/GTS 450 graphics card) and transferred my files and programs over using PCmover. After doing that I started getting a warning message when I shut down X3--"The master list cannot be saved. Unable to open the file C:\Documents and settings\Larry Sweeney\Chief Architect Premier X3 Data\master.mat for writing". I'm using Windows 7 Pro on my new computer and my old computer used Windows XP. Does this have something to do with the mismatching of files from one OS to another? If so, does anyone know how I can correct this and exactly what this warning means?
Also in the transfer I loss the pdf995 printer as a printer in X3 for converting my layout files to pdf. files. I have tried downloading Pdf995 from their website, but I can't get it to run. Has anyone else had this problem going to Windows 7? Probably a good part of my problem is that a understand very little about the "inner workings" of a computer ---just enough to get me in trouble, of which I am now in. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.Larry Sweeney

Larry:
not sure what PCMover can do
but most apps like Chief need to be installed on the PC as there are settings in the registry etc that can't be moved from one OS to another
you may want to contact tech support to get their advice

Lew & David--Just sent it in. I don't know if they can do anything about the Pdf995 or not--we'll see. My guess is that they will say do a reinstall. If I do a reinstall do I first have to uninstall X3 or can I just overwrite it?

Larry:
probably best to do an uninstall - but not sure ???
download PDF995 again and install it - maybe uninstall first
I'm still on Vista so maybe there is an issue with Win7 ???
If so, try CutePD or NitroPDF, they have received good reviews here

Check the permissions on the data folder and the files in it.
If that fails run chkdsk on your C: drive. Sometimes new systems will have early hard drive failures.Doug Park

Doug--Please excuse my very limited knowledge, but which data folder? Tech support said to reinstall X3, which I did, and and I still have the same problem. (the warning and also no pdf995. I'm about ready to "undo migration" in the PCmover program, which will take me back to just Windows 7 Pro being loaded and load all my programs from disk. Probably should have done it that way from the beginning.

Larry,
Whichever folders your Chief install/data are in. It does sound like an admin privileges issue.
Also whichever icon you click to start Chief, right click it and under "properties" find the compatibility tab and change the privilege level to run as administrator. I had an issue with POVray causing a similar stuff up and changing the program to always run as administrator fixed my issue.
Basically, I set most of my applications to run as administrator.

X3 doesn't require Admin access to run correctly.
The folder is "C:\Documents and settings\Larry Sweeney\Chief Architect Premier X3 Data\" based on your first post.
I'm also assuming that your user account is "Larry Sweeney".
Bring up the properties on that folder and set the permissions so that the user "Larry Sweeney" is the owner and has full access.Doug Park
