Roof on fireplace

ah just a little query,
where's the chimney?

since it would appear this is an open fire place with firebrick linings, why would you not extend the fireplace right up with brick to make a chimney?

in that situation you dont require a roof over it as such!

yeah you could be right, looks a bit nasty though! a bit like a pool pump shed stuck on the side of a house really!
