Lower/Raise
Hello all,
If you have several buildings in one lot, the terrain slopes from and your houses follow the slope in pad cuts starting from higher to lower, how do you lower an entire house without having to re do the individual floor heights for each house?
Example:
Higher house sits at 0 level
Next house sits at -6", next at -12" and so on...
If you are bringing in houses into a new terrain with the slopes already worked out, the new houses you bring in sit at 0 level by default. How do you lower them?Last edited by Jorge Araya; 03-24-2010 at 04:31 PM. Reason: Ad image

Jorge,
Terrain Specification dbx... Building Pad...Uncheck Auto Calculate Elevation.
In the Pad Elevation box type in the real world elevation (same reference as your elevation data) that you want your Chief zero floor level to be.Glenn

If all houses sit at zero, and you need to lower the houses individually, to follow the terrain, how do you achieve that?

Jorge,
Ah, I see.
You need to give each house a different floor level - not Chief's zero level.
If you have already build the houses at zero and they are small houses, it is probably easiest to do it room by room.
Or, you can make some of the walls No Wall Def and do it all in one go for each house.Last edited by Glenn Woodward; 03-25-2010 at 09:43 PM.

Jorge:
try using select same and load same per floor starting with the lowest floor
to move the house to the desired lower height
the problem is each time you add a room or lose room definition chief will revert to the default of floor height 0
for that room
this applies for any of the multiple houses in the plan
it would be nice if chief wouldn't do this or at least warn us if it needs to change a floor height already set
this is a case where having floor locks would be desirable

Yes, thank you...!
What if your houses are multilevel houses? say 3 floors each?
Will you have to do floor by floor, room by room, and lastly the roof?
This will certainly be a big setback...Jorge Araya

Jorge:
try the select same/load same per floor, starting with the lowest floor
It may be doable, but I doubt if it's "easy"
again it's subject to chief reverting to the defaults, whenever chief finds the need to do so
bottom line, your probably better off with a separate plan for each house and then convert them to symbols and place them in a master site plan

The edit area command seems to do it, it takes a bit of research to make it work but, I am testing it with somewhat undesirable results.
Select Edit>Edit Area>Edit Area All Floors>draw marquee>transform replicate>absolute location>Z Delta>enter the desired floor level.
Your building should move in its entirety in the up or down axis...
Unfortunately only the roof planes were dropped, the building is still at its original position.Last edited by Jorge Araya; 03-26-2010 at 09:36 AM. Reason: additional info

Jorge:
make sure you don't have any tools selected before doing the edit area
my quick test this morning indicated that using edit area won't change the floor height setting(s) in the room dbx's
which is why I experimented with the select same/load same which does

Jorge,
If you just want to see how the houses look on the lot you could make each house in it's own plan. The do a full overview of each house and convert it into a symbol. Then you could place the house symbols into the plan with the terrain. By using symbols it would be easy to control the height setting. Hope this though helps.

The site plan is where this information appears, not on the individual house plans.
Work out the footprint elevation for each house from the topographical survey describing the building site.
Each house will be built separately with unrelated floor heights to each other.Gene Marteeny

Not really no,
Say you have 6 models to build, you have 3 seats, you can have three people working on two models each, in the end everyone should be able to input two houses for the lot.
Drop them, over your terrain and yes, they should drop and follow each pad instead of dropping at zero.
Second no to that, its, if you have your topo map, and say you were able to replicate it closely with your terrain, it wouldn't be a good idea to have it in the plan until the very last moment to avoid this "generating-rendering" the terrain etc. over and over, which in turn end up adding lots and lots of time... (I would agree if you are doing one house and have a single lot/terrain).
The symbol option will probably work, not sure if you need to change something though...
