    split level

I am working on a project that has a portion the is partly below ground level and extends partly above ground. This is an as built that I am adding to. I have modeled it but I am not satisfied with the results or the methods I had to use. I have enclosed some info from my model. any suggestions would be a great help. I would be nice if we could add a floor below 0 as noted in the last picture.

if we could add a floor below 0

    Poelcat:

just move each floor up one level and than add your lowest floor as floor 0

you could have all 30 floors (chief's max) below grade if needed

It has become obvious that no one has any input to assist me in this problem since there have been 65 views and only one reply. Lew's reply is good but does not address the real problem of Chief i recognizing a negative floor level.

    OK, OK, I'll bite.

I don't quite understand your problem as Chief WILL recognise a negative floor level.
The problem could arise where you do not have the room to place the floor with a negative floor level because you already have a floor drawn there. ie, you can't have 2 floor levels occupying the same place on the same floor plan.
In which case, you need to follow Lew's advice.

Glen I have tried to enter a negative number and it would not take it. Do you have to build a foundation first?

Negative floor level in relation to the grade. If you set the 1st floor default at -8'-0", then that is where the first floor will be in relation to the existing grade.

    Poelcat:

    no negative floor #'s allowed

as stated before all 30 floors can be below grade

the lowest floor # is always 0 ranging up to floor 30 and then floor A

not sure if floor A can be below grade ???

floor #'s have nothing to do with grade level

I don't think that is correct.
Your floor levels are relative to Chiefs zero floor level NOT grade.

Negative floor numbers may not be allowed Lew, but we are talking about negative floor HEIGHTS which are very much allowed.

    Polecat,
I don't understand why you cant enter a negative floor height.
Can you post or email the plan and I will have a look.
Are you sure you have Default unchecked next to the Floor Height box?

    Polecat,

Negative on the negative level numbers.

How else would you have a garage flooe 8" below the o level of the main floor.Same with porches and decks.

I did a plane last year where I had a 4 unit townhouse project and each unit was 2; beloe the adjacent unit because ot the street grade.

I will say it would have been a ****-of-lot easier to start with the lower unit and gone up up I did it the hard way.

Also they were two story units ,talk about asking for trouble!Got em done though.Long story short you can use negative floor values.

    Have a great week,Ken

Hope you get it worked out

    Glenn:

I know that and stated that

Poelcat did refer to negative floor levels...

to clarify for 3 stories below grade and 2 stories above grade
    assuming 10' per story:

floor 0 floor height would be -30'

floor 1 floor height would be -20'

floor 2 floor height would be -10'

floor 3 floor height would be 0'

floor 4 floor height would be 10'
