Dimensioning for layout - floor plans - best practice?

My layerset for sending a floor plan to layout is FLOOR PLANS FOR LAYOUT.

Turned on in that layerset is my layer DIMENSIONS - FLOOR PLANS, also, DIMENSIONS - AUTOMATIC.

Do you auto-dimension, then group select the whole lot of them, change their layer to DIMENSIONS - FLOOR PLANS, and then go from there with manuals, and the edit the changes you need?

I am just wondering about good practice.

Hi Gene
I set up the dimension defaults first so they land close to where I want them.
Then start with auto, group select and place on the right layer.
Then edit them as needed..
That seems to work for me.

Allen does what I do if I have different dimensions to show in different plan views (layersets).

I'm not sure when I used auto dims last...at least v9.5. I had so much trouble with I just stopped using them and haven't gone back. Having said that..I set up my dim layers ahead of time and when I switch a plan mode...ie..Electrical, Roof Plan, Framing..etc...I double click the dim tool and change the layer then.

I start with the auto dims, then edit and delete some of them, then place manual dims as needed. I leave them on the default layer, but turn that layer off and add dims on a new layer when doing roofs, framing, electrical, etc.
