    Rails do not create "Deck"

I don't know what the deal is. I have read a BUNCH of tutorials and video's and such and they all say that if you place a porch railing around an area, as long as it is enclosed, it will create a room called "deck." But I can not get it to work.

Also, that roof is being difficult. How can I change it to make it look better by the garage?

Last thing. All of a sudden, all of my room names disappeared. So, I recheck the "no room def." and it will let me name the room but the wall doesn't extend to the roof. What's the deal with that?!

I am going to attach my file so anyone can check it out if they have time.

Thanks again for all of the help!

I have no idea what you did to this plan right off. I can't get any wall type to make another room outside your house. yes, it's screwed up somewhere. You had other issues I found with room def. problems, but fixing that did not help the problem.

You must use deck railing walls to get the deck definition. Regular railing walls don't make a deck automatically.

Well, I had all the rooms named and then I put the roof on and noticed that the walls didn't connect to it. So, I changed some settings until the walls met up but then my rooms disappeared.

That's beside the point here. I can't make any rooms outside the main house an get room definition. Even a separate building like a garage.

What settings did you change? You need to unchange it.

You've got a number of walls that are marked "No Room Def". Those need to be fixed. Make sure all of your rooms can be selected.

Then you've got a problem with the walls around the stairs leading up to the 2nd floor. At the corner which is in the Laundry room you can see (delete the doorway and framing helps to see this) there is a very short piece of wall that is messing things up. I've deleted the doorway and pulled the doorway wall back so you can see this in the attached.

Once these items are corrected you can use railings to enclose your deck.

OT: Do you really want that stairway to be in the Guest Bedroom?

You're right about the short segmented walls messing up everything. I guess having the walls on top of walls was messing up the entire plan.

I took yall's advice and finally got it! I made sure all walls were NOT checked "no room def." and some of them I had to check "no locate" and "ballooon through ceiling"

Thanks for all of your help!

Why did you find these settings to be needed? Not to create the deck for certain.

You're right. It wasn't for the deck but it was for another problem I was having. The outside walls were not connecting to the roof right but I think I fixed that. Now, when I do interior elevations, the ceiling heights are different. In the bathroom, it is about 9'. In the living room, it is a vaulted ceiling. I am pretty sure that the settings are the same. Is there a certain button that turns the vault on or off?

If you have a particular room that is vaulted, and not the room next to it, the turn off the ceiling in the vaulted room only. This will be in the room dbx under the structure tab. You of course have to have separate room def. for each.
