Why do I have holes in exterior walls where roofs tie in?

Example... I have small storage room with shed roof attached to exterior gable wall of garage. A hole shows through the gable wall above where the storage roof ties in to garage wall. Why?????

Yes, attic walls is checked.

Figured it out for one area! Went up in attic and built a brick exterior wall since the wall section just beneath on 1st floor is actually the divider wall between garage and storage space. I know... hard to explain without attaching picture for detail.
