Allen I want to thank you for sending me the volute. I really appreciate it there, is no way I would have been able to figure that problem out. With help of your download and reading your discussions on the topic I learned an incrediable amount. Thanks again.

JC, I'm glad I could help. Honestly, I wanted to work this out myself, as much as I wanted to help!

If you want to send a picture, while you are in any 2D or 3D view, click "File>Export>Export Picture". This will save a picture of your Chief Window wherever you want it on your computer. If you want to post it on Chieftalk, while responding to a post, click the button at the bottom that says "Go Advanced", then look for the button that has a picture of a paper clip on it, and it will allow you to find the picture on your computer.

I'd love to see how it came out!

And, I found one even better. (Thanks to Gene) Check the Symbols forum for the specifics, and some more ideas.

But, anyways, here is an X2 plan with the symbol in it, and also, I took a cross section of the symbol, drew a profile, and it is in the plan with the symbol. Just select it, and add it to your library to use as the molding for your handrail on your stairs, to match the volute.

But I had to share this. This is a picture of the entry that JC did, and it really looks awesome.

With the details on the trim, stairs, floors, etc., It's obvious he is a great designer.

Looks great. One item that is a bother though is the stair tred material. Needs to go in the other direction and maybe changed to solid vs planks.

Allen, thanks BIG TIME for that volute. That one really looks great and I was able to create this stair with volute in a very reasonably short period of time. Man dude, I've been wanting to do this for a long time. The key here is to have the right symbol to work with. The one I was using wasn't working at all. Using a landing at the bottom is critical too. I was using chief's starter tread and no can do and use a volute. You just made my week. Thanks again Allen.

Allen, I'm actually using the 1st. volute you posted. It works great or plenty good enough for me with the handrail profile that I use the most. The handrail profile is one that I made and isn't in Chief's library. It's a more common handrail that I see around here. This stair only took a few minutes to make.

Thanks for your generosity in making that file for us chief users to have the volute. Now I noticed there are several volute files on this thread, are they the same or each one different? Just figured I would ask.

In my opinion. the last one is the best (post #19). The reason is, it has a curving transition up to the handrail, where the earlier ones had a sharp angle. Also, that plan has the matching profile to the volute you can add to your moldings library for the handrail on your stairway.

For some reason when I select the profile for the railing it wont let me add it to the library?? Am I missing something? I tried copying it and pasting it to see if maybe that would work but it didnt. Im just trying to add it to my moldings like you recommended so that it will match the volute.

Any suggestions?
