    Plan Footprint Problems

In the attached plan, I can place a Plan Footprint in the CAD detail named Property Lines but I can't select it with the cursor. I can marquee select it but when I either try to Convert to Polyline, or open the dbx and check the Display Polyline and uncheck Plan Details, the footprint becomes a tiny line that's like 1/4" long. I tried a simple plan from scratch and it works fine, but not for this one.

I tried closing and re-starting Chief, same thing.

Am I missing something here? Seems like a bug.

    Sounds like a layer issue.

I don't think so, I already explored that possibility. Did you try the plan yourself? If it was a layer issue, why would I get this one little 1/4" line showing up when trying to Convert to Polyline?

    Bryce,
I looked at the plan. Played w/ it. Getting the same thing you are.
Don't know. Maybe the odd wall angles?
    Give it to TS.
See what they come up w/.

    Hi Bryce
I have never done this before.
Guessing that the foot print is landing at the coordinates that it is is plan.
Move the terrain and picture to line up.

Or you could do the footprint in a cad detail and then do a view to cad to use.

    Thanks for looking at it.

Not that far from zero. That's exactly what I was trying to do, generate the footprint in a CAD detail, and then transfer that, and the property lines, to the plan view. Almost never want your plan oriented the way it is as far as bearing cooridinates go, you know.

This is an as-built and, yes, there are some very weird angles and roof intersections, among other things.

I'll send it in to TS.

Footprint unmovable due to bad wall connection

I have had the same problem more than one time and every time it was due to a wall not connecting. Take each wall, pull it away and reconnect it. When you can click just outside the wall, hit tab and get the continuous gray outline of the floor plan all the walls are connected. You should then be able to move the plan footprint in layout. I give credit for this solution to Dan Park. Thank you again Dan Park.

That makes sense. I kept checking my room definitions, which all seemed fine, but you're right, I couldn't get the perimeter polyline to generate, which would negate the need to get this from the Plan Footprint in this case. I'll look into that, thanks.

    Another Clue

Well, I went around checking my room definitions in another Save As version of this plan and this is what I get. This is a digital photo of the screen as the grey areas wouldn't come through in a screen capture. I get the "Open" symbol to show up and then the Room dbx. If you zoom out these "rooms" go on infinitely.

This connection loss of wall connections seems to happen when I edit a section of the house to change size. I hope this helps.

I think that the person who gave me the idea was Dan Parks not Dan Park, my apology to Dan for this mistake.

I suspect it may also be coming from three-way intersections of walls at odd angles which Chief doesn't seem to like.

    Bryce,
I narrowed it down to the upper exterior walls, but I could never get an exterior room polyline from a plan view. I could, however, get an exterior room polyline from a 3D overview camera (select room before wall in "preferences"), made it a molding polyline, assigned a molding & you can see where it's going, way off into the universe. No amount of fiddling, even replacing walls w/ new walls in new locations ever got it right.
So I copied the walls into a new blank plan..............all is good.
    I dunno.

Bryce, delete the angled wall on the left, the exterior wall of the bathroom and try to do your plan footprint cad, you can now select the plan. But now do an undo, and now you can select the plan after you do the footprint cad. I cannot explain it, but it seems to fix the problem.

Thanks guys, I'll fuss with it, as I think these issues are also causing other glitches I am seeing. Nothing deal-breaking, just annoying.
