Problems with printing layout
Ok, this is one for the bad words.
I am 1 hour from a client meeting where I am presenting a revised design for their home, and I can't get anything to print! I have an 11x17 layout, and everytime I print it just sits and does nothing. I checked my printer settings in the layout print dbx, and they were all changed! I set them as they should be, tried printing, and still nothing. I closed the file, opened again, and the settings were wrong again!
I am going to try a brand new layout file, in case the current template is corrupted, but if anyone has any suggestions, I could use some help with this.Rod Kervin

Be sure that your printer settings match the settings in the page set up in Chief. Also be sure that you have the correct printer set as default in the layout page set up. Just guessing here. I always print from a pdf. If you're using X2, try not running as administrator if your settings in the page set up don't stick. MANY TIMES I can't even access the layout page set up if I'm running as administrator. However, I can always access it if I don't run as administrator. Hope you figure it out.

Sorry. I don't have a plotter so I'm probably not much help. Louis does but he always works it out with his plotter.

Is that the big red button
Not quite
I think I would push it before I tried taping letter size together, a real PITA and won't impress the client at all
Dan/Doug rhave recommend this as a possible fix many times
flush out the printer info and then change your print dbx as needed
are you printing straight to the printer or to PDF ???
It is recommended to create PDF first, cures lots of printer "issues"

Ok, so I have managed to print a sample layout from X2 and it works fine, but the layout file for my plan doesn't want to print. The plan file is a legacy X1 file, but the layout file was new in X2.
I noticed that the original X1 file (which I saved) is only about 2.8mb, while the X2 file that I have worked on since is around 12mb. I converted the X1 file to X2 and saved it with no changes, and it is now 4mb., which makes sense with some of the new features in X2. 12mb seems a little fat, though.Rod Kervin

Ok, I'm printing now, and I figured out the problem. I sent the drawing to layout using 1/8 scale, so it would fit on 11x17. But I needed to rotate the layout box for the drawing to fit, as it has a large garage that extends at a 30 degree angle from one side. The drawing fit, but the layout box was off the page. I rotated the plan 30 degrees and sent to layout, and now the layout box and plan are both within the layout margins.
IMHO, this should not cause the problem. I have drawn cad objects on layout pages where they overlap not only the margin, but the page borders. there has never been any problem printing them. (I don't do this as standard practice, but I just wanted to test it once.)Rod Kervin
