    Hello, Flat roofs, roof decks

Hi all, I want to show plans for a 4 story townhome with 1 bedroom in the fourth floor and the rest of the space is going to be a falt roof used as a observation deck or patio. i am going to have a gable roof on the bedroom. Please let me know how I can get that flat roof on 3rd floor and gable on the 4th floor. Please let me know if you have questions on my post, regarding the layout?

    Hi:

I am working on a similar project, a 3 storey Toronto house with a roof deck.

The roof pitch is zero and I used the baseline to get the correct elevation.

Now I just have figure out how to do the sleepers and deck framing.

    Hi Gord, Great Picture

That is exactly what I am looking for. Whn you are doing the floor plans, how do you do the 4th floor room and how do you show the rest of it as deck? If I use the 0 in the base line, what materilas are available to show someting similar to your picture?
    Thanks

Is there a help article or white paper, or a link that you can refer me to,that pertains to this specific concept? Please share it if there is something like that.

    Hi:

I created the 2-½ stories and added the flat roof on the back section. Then I created a 3 floor on the section with the flat roof only and drew the walls, door, and railing.

I haven’t been able to find anything specific in the database regarding roof decks.

Most of this by trial and error.

These drawings are for “Building Permit Only”

I am going to draw the framing and railing specifications in a separate plan.

It has to very precise as this an “Order to Comply” because of the condition of the deck.

BTW…can you disable the attic walls in X2?

This would have very easy if I could shut off the extremely annoying automatic attic walls.

They are enough to make a mare bite her own colt!

So Chief really hasn't incorporated a flat roof system with or with-out parapets. That seems odd that they have ignored that element when they work so hard to get different types of flowers in vases for counter top renderings

The limitation is a RIPPED flat roof system otherwise flat roofs with and without parapets are possible.

Which is a significant limitation, since most roof decks are RIPPED (ie, bottom of framing members are level, top of member is ripped to 1/4 : 12 pitch)

Scott, you know that is not entirely true, you can create a custom framing member that is ripped and copy it in place on whatever centers you need.

Personally I prefer to use extra 2x4 plates for the slope and nail 2x4 ceiling joists on the side of the rafters. It's more lumber but a lot less labor. It generally makes for a more consistent roof slope anyway. This is the way everyone should do it.
