railing for deck ramp
OK, so I've figured out how to create deck ramps by drawing a 'fake' roof plane. But I'm stumped on how to create a deck railing that follows the slope of the ramp. Thanks for the help. Randy Williams v.X1

try using a molding polyline...draw a line, change it to a molding p-line, give it whatever shape you want.

Recently, I had to do the same thing.
I did a search here and found some interesting articles in the help data base.
Then I posted my results as I had problems using one of the mentioned articles.
Here is the thread:

railing
Thanks to all for your replies. So it sounds like I should draw the ramp railing as a fence and then tell it to follow terrain...? If the ramp is actually a roof, will the fence recognize it as terrain?

I had problems with the railing when I told it to follow the terrain. I had better luck using a set of stairs and hiding them inside the roof that I used to make the ramp.
I'm not sure if this has been fixed in this latest update. I'll have to try it and see....Jim Rogers

I was able to draw a ramp using both previously mentioned methods. The one attached image is one that I created using a stair between two manually created landings. Controlling the display of the railing on a stair is limited I think.
Would certainly be nice if Chief would include a ramp function when they overhaul the seriously lacking stair creation tool(s).
I found the terrain/ fence method to be a laborious, non-intuitive PITA.

Hey Dean,
nice the way you integrated the ramp with the landscaping and picket-fence. Appears to take away the typically harsh contrast of most ramps to their surroundings. BradArchitect,NOT!
