    Line Drawing??

Has anyone noticed a difference in time for completing a 3d line drawings? In X2 when I would select 'line drawing' from the rendering techniques menu, it would only take about the same amount of time to complete as any of the other views.

In X3 its about 20 times slower literally processing like 1%..... 15 seconds 2%..... etc etc.

I havent changed any settings so I figured I would ask you all if your experiencing anything similar.

The house Im wanting to do a line drawing on, has no landscaping, furniture and is only 2000 square feet. Im just trying to do a 3d exterior pic, with nothing fancy. Ive done much larger homes with line drawing in X2 and it only took about 15 seconds to complete.

    Any ideas?

I've had the same experience - in fact I've stopped using line drawing all together because of it.

    Chad,

Render or Raytrace as normal and then port the image to fotosketcher for the line drawing - the line drawing won't be processing any 3D data.

Here's one I did as a sepia tone and sketch:

Well Im glad everyone else is saying similar things because I couldnt understand how the house could be so simple, small and still be taking so long. I wonder if its a bug?

I wish we could reverse plans back to X2 because I designed this one in X3 but I know the line drawing rendering would take only a few seconds in X2, I just wish I could swing it backward just to get the line drawing.

Rod, thanks for the referral to that software, is that a free download or a software you buy online?

Thanks Pat! It looks really cool! I will look into it, because I cant wait fifteen minutes for the line drawing to develop. It use to only take seconds in X2 so Im not sure whats going on.

I just compared X2 times with X3 (both with OOB settings) and found a good improvement in the X3 times.

I like to use the Woodstone plan for checking these things... it ships with all versions and it's pretty complete.

Full overview, zoomed in a bit so house filled window.

    X2 - 64 seconds
    X3 - 44 seconds.

    Line Drawing Times

Ahh, Watercolor with Line Drawing... my favorite!

    X2 - 64 seconds
    X3 - 45 seconds

Not a significant difference in either one.
